BHOPAL: National Green Tribunal (NGT), central bench on Thursday asked all branches of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) to take into account quantity of biomedical waste (BMW) being disposed of through in-house facilities in various hospitals which under the new rules of 2016 have been prohibited from disposing of the BMW through in-house disposal facilities.

This additional quantity needs to be added to the quantity of BMW, which was generated and collected by incineration facility providers. After taking into consideration installed capacity in case of excess quantity, requirement of providing viable option for disposal of excess BMW shall be calculated. The PCB along with the state medical and health department shall work out a mechanism for its proper disposal, the tribunal said. The NGT asked to speed up process of environment clearance from SEAC within 30 days for Bhopal Incinerators Limited (BIL), which is a BMW waste disposal unit.
